Punjabi traditional clothing

Popularly called as the land of five rivers, Punjab has distinct style in everything-whether it’s related to food or clothes. Everything is unique and spell binding. The Punjabi clothing stands out among all the other Indian wear.

No attire can match the grace and elegance given by the suit salwars to the woman wearing it. Whether it is for a casual party or for work, they are available for every occasion in different styles. . Punjabi men also wear salwar kameezs but they are much looser than those worn by the women. These are mostly worn with puggs or turbans.

Most of the salwar kameezs are worn with colorful Punjabi dupattas by the Punjabi women. There are two main pieces of a salwar kameez: the kameez, or shirt, and the salwar, or pants. A duppatta can be defined as a piece of colorful cloth that is worn by women around their necks. All the three parts are available in a variety of colors and designs. During the winters, these are worn with a woolen shawl. She may also pair her suits with woolen sweaters.

The Punjabi suits look even better if worn with Punjabi juttis. The Punjabi shoes are popularly called as juttis. These can also be worn by both the men and the women. These are very popular in the urban as well as the rural areas. These provide great elegance to the person wearing these and are also very comfortable.

Another breathtaking piece of the Punjabi clothing is the phulkari. A phulkari is a shawl that is completely covered in dense silk embroidery. It may also be covered in folk motifs in jewel-tones on an ochre background. It is a favorite among the brides. Brides love to wear golden phulkari. These add a unique grace to the Punjabi suits.
